Rebecca Reed
Kantrowitz: Director

I received my Bachelors degree in
English from Allegheny College, where I
served as a Resident Advisor. From there
I went on to earn a Masters degree in
education from Niagara University and
work as a residence director. After
that, I came to Syracuse University as a
Residence Director (for Booth and
Lawrinson) then traveled to the
University of California, Berkeley, to
work as
a Residential Life Coordinator. Most
recently I served as Assistant Dean of
Students and Director of Residential
Life at Hamilton College. I am a
doctoral candidate in the Higher
Education Program here at SU. I am
honored to be a member of the ORL team
and look forward to the year ahead! |

Bill Longcore:
Associate Director

Bill is the associate director for
budget, operations, and South Campus.
Bill works closely with the Housing
Office to provide continuous improvement
for each of our residential facilities.
Bill also supervises the professional
residence directors and programming
assistant on South Campus. |

Robin Berkowitz-Smith:
Associate Director
rberkowi@syr.edu My name is Robin Berkowitz-Smith, and I
am one of four Associate Directors
within the Office of Residence Life. I
work with an amazing group of
professional and paraprofessional staff
which includes four Assistant Directors
of Residence Life, three Coordinators,
13 Resident Directors, 16 Assistant
Resident Directors/Graduate Students,
156 Resident Advisors and 3
Administrative Secretaries. I have been
at Syracuse University for 16 years and
I have completely enjoyed the journey.
Previously, I worked at Kent State where
I received my Master’s Degree in Higher
Education. |

Terra
Peckskamp: Director of Learning
Communities for
Student Affairs/Associate Director of
Residence Life

Hi! I’m Terra Peckskamp. I started
working in SU’s Office of Residence Life
in June 1999 as the Coordinator for
Academic Initiatives, where I quickly
became involved in Syracuse University’s
new learning community program. I am now
one of the co-directors of the Office of
Learning Communities, and I enjoy
working with learning community
students, faculty, and staff in a
variety of ways. Prior to working at SU,
I spent three years as a Coordinator of
Student Development at Cal Poly, San
Luis Obispo. I received my master’s
degree in Student Affairs Administration
from Michigan State University in 1996,
and my bachelor’s in Management from
Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1993.
Currently I am working on my Ph.D. in
Higher Education Administration here at
SU.

Dan Cutler: Assistant Director for Learning Communities
Campus
Greetings! My name is Dan Cutler and I am the Assistant Director for the Office of Learning Communities at Syracuse University. I joined ORL in 2001 as a Residence Director and spent 4 wonderful years in that role. I have recently returned to SU to work with the amazing learning community faculty, staff, and students. I have also worked in various Residence Life positions at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, Clemson University, and most recently the University of Missouri – Columbia. I have a Bachelors degree in Biology and Chemistry and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling. I look forward to an amazing year. Go Orange!

Pam
Peter: Assistant Director for South
Campus

Hi! My name is Pam Peter. I am the
Assistant Director for South Campus. I
also serve as the Orientation liaison
for ORL. I have a B.A. from Penn State,
Erie and a Master’s from Penn State,
University Park. I have worked at
colleges in Connecticut, Pennsylvania,
and most recently Kentucky, where I
worked at the University of Louisville.
I am very excited to be working at
Syracuse and look forward to getting to
know as many students as I can. In my
spare time I like puttering around my
house, reading, playing with my two
dogs, and going to the movies. My
favorite all around quote is: “Don’t
criticize what you don’t understand. You
never walked a mile in that man’s
shoes.” But my new quote is: “Never
forget that only the dead fish swim with
the stream.”

also responsible for the Leadership
initiatives in Residence Life.

George Athanas : Assistant Director for Area B

Hi, my name is George Athanas and I am the assistant director for Flint, Day, Shaw and Lyons Hall (Area B). In addition, I am also responsible for coordinating the civic engagement initiatives within the department, including our sustainability campaign, ‘Be Orange. Think Green.’ I have degrees from the University of New Hampshire, University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Michigan State University. Born and raised in New Hampshire I spent the early part of my career working in New England (Franklin Pierce College & UMASS Lowell) and then moved to the Midwest. Before the move I was able to travel around the world as a staff member for Semester at Sea which only reinforced my love of traveling. Most recently I have worked in residence life at Michigan State and within the student centers at Syracuse University. My return to residence life has been most enjoyable, particularly working with the strong, dedicated and sometimes most importantly fun staff here in the ORL. |

Michelle Singletary: Assistant Director
for Area C

Hello, I am the Assistant Director for
Area C which consists of Watson, Booth,
Kimmel, Marion, DellPlain, Butterfield,
Haven, Washington Arms, and Walnut. I am
also responsible for the Diversity
initiatives in Residence Life. I have a B.A. and Ms.Ed from the State University of New York at Cortland. Prior to working at Syracuse University, I have worked at Ithaca College and the State University of New York at Geneseo.

Eric
Nestor: Assistant Director for Assessment,
Operations,
Technology, and Summer Programs

Hi! I am responsible for overseeing all
departmental assessment initiatives,
residence hall main desk, housing
operations, policy and procedure
implementatation, and summer programs. In addition, I am
responsible for implementing new
technology within the department. I
began working in the Office of Residence
Life in June 1998. Before that, I
attended Shippensburg University of
Pennsylvania where I earned my Master’s
Degree in Counseling/College Student
Personnel in 1998 and my Bachelor’s
Degree in History in 1996. I enjoy
presenting and submitting publications
for both professional development and to
educate and challenge others to think
critically. Currently, I am pursuing my
doctorate in Cultural Foundations of
Education.

Shannon Cross : Coordinator for Communications

Hello! I am responsible for departmental
communications and providing the ORL
staff members with professional
development opportunities. I also work
closely with the professional and
paraprofessional training and selection
teams. In addition, I oversee the development and design of all
departmental publications and the ORL
website. I began my employment with Syracuse as the Residence Director of Day Hall in June 2005 and moved to my current position in June 2007. My educational background
includes a bachelor’s degree from
Grand Valley State University in
Public Administration
and a master’s degree from Kansas State
University in College Student Personnel Administration. I enjoy training, staff selection and
professional development initiatives. I also enjoy the opportunity to be creative and showcase the department through our website and publications. |

Hello! My name is Kimberly Williams and
I am the Coordinator for Staff Selection
and Training. I began my employment at
Syracuse University as a residence
director (in Brewster/Brockway) in June
2005. I moved into my current position
as Coordinator for Staff Selection
and Training in July 2006. In my role as
Coordinator, I am responsible for
coordinating RA selection and training,
MDA selection and training and I also
work closely with Professional staff
selection and training. I received my
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and
Sociology from Concord University in
Athens, West Virginia and my Master of
Science in Human Resource Management
from the University of Charleston in
Charleston, West Virginia. I also served
as a residence director at the
University of Charleston. |

I began employment with the Office of
Residence Life at Syracuse University in
July 1998 and moved to my current
position in August 1999. As
Administrative Specialist for Human
Resource Management, I serve on the
Recruitment and Selection Committee and
have many opportunities to meet a

University. I am a native Syracusan and
have resided in a rural area of western
Onondaga County since November 1983.My
husband is employed at New Venture Gear
and we have three school-aged children,

Corporation and we have two children,
Alexis and Brad.
