Former NRHH president Carly Michel inducts Barry L. Wells, former senior vice president and dean of student affairs into NRHH as an honorary member.

What is NRHH?

The National Residence Hall Honorary (from herein called NRHH) is the branch of National Association of College and University Residence Halls, Inc. (from herein called NACURH) that recognizes student leadership and services for those who live in the residence halls. NACURH, as an organization, truly believes that recognition is a must for a strong Residence Hall community.

Our chapter is called the SU Orange Chapter of NRHH. NRHH chapters have a very special way of recognizing those top leaders, through induction and membership to the NRHH. The NRHH chapter membership (per school) is restricted to 1% of students living in the residence halls of that school. So, once inducted into NRHH you can consider yourself a member of the Top 1% of residence hall leaders.

What does NRHH do?

Just like other student organizations, the SU Orange Chapter of NRHH has traditional events each semester. Every fall, we host a brunch during Parent’s Weekend for all families with students involved with the Office of Residence Life. In the Spring, we host Strike Out the Stress during final exams. We have an ongoing relationship with The Living Room, a resource center for people with HIV/ AIDS and their families in the Syracuse community. Other events include inductions, Just Desserts, the End of Year Awards, a variety of community service projects, and monthly recognition programs in addition to OTMs.

Who can be in NRHH?

Any student who has lived on campus for a semester is eligible to apply to NRHH. We accept students based on their leadership skills and service to the on-campus community. NRHH recruits students each semester, so watch for information.

What are our symbols?

Blue and white are the organizations colors. Blue symbolizes a loyalty to purpose and idea and white symbolizes a blank page on which students can write their successes and experiences.

The symbol for NRHH is that of a diamond surrounding the letters of the organization, and the three interconnected lines, the chain of leadership. The diamond, the world's most precious gem, signifies the value and beauty one finds in the residence halls experience. Together, the unbroken chain symbolizes the membership of NRHH.

The first link of the chain represents caring. Leaders are people who care. They are concerned about themselves and others, and are committed to making things better.

The second link signifies dedication. Part of a leader's commitment is the dedication to cause which they display.

The third link represents participation. True leaders participate fully in their academic pursuits, their friendships, their activities, and their lives.

What is an OTM?

An OTM (Of the Month) is the prime recognition tool that NRHH uses. They are designed to recognize people and programs that positively impact life in the residence halls each month. Winners are recognized on the school, regional and national level.

OTMs can be submitted online here.

OTMs are due by the 1st of each month. Recipients of an OTM get a certificate of achievement as well as their photo posted on the Wall of Fame in the Office of Residence Life.
