Batteries aren't better.  Just because electronics leak electricity doesn't mean switching to batteries is a smart answer.  Disposable batteries contain toxic metals that are impossible to get rid of; when crushed, they release these toxins into the air.  Even when disposed of correctly, the toxic material must be separated and stored forever.  If you must use batteries, rechargeable ones are the way to go!
