Who We Are:
Underrepresented RAs United (URU) is a support group for resident advisors who are a members of an underrepresented race or ethnic  group.  This group was created primarily because life on a predominantly White campus can be a culture shock to students of color and may pose dilemmas for underrepresented students. Being an underrepresented  RA on a floor or on a staff may also pose potential issues and dilemmas because of the varying understandings of the cultural differences among our students. It is our intent to help our underrepresented RAs process what it means to be an RA of color and gain the skills necessary to do well socially and academically at Syracuse University and in the world. We provide strong mentoring opportunities for RAs who may need help navigating in their RA position and the wider campus community.  Our activities include monthly discussions about issues facing RAs of color and students of color on campus, one-on-one mentoring relationships, and retreats.
